Great Price Macally BTMOUSE2 for $34.39

Macally Bluetooth Wireless Laser Mouse for Mac and PC (Black) Review

Complete disclosure: I'm a big fan of Macally products.

The mouse arrived. A nice touch were the included AAA batteries. My Mac Mini and the mouse didn't connect happily until I rebooted. I rebooted and they paired immediately. So far they have maintained their connection and movement or a mouse click have woken the Mini up right away.

The mouse design is typical Macally: Not stylish, just beautifully functional. It's black with silver band around the middle. The buttons give good resistance and you can hear the click. The scroll wheel has good feedback and you can feel "clicks" as you scroll. I appreciate this response better than the "smooth" feel of some scroll wheels.

The manual (which takes about 30 seconds to read entirely) gives a URL to download the Mac drive for programming features. The website says it is for OS X 10.4 and 10.5. My mini has 10.6 and the driver didn't seem to install properly. I haven't heard back from Macally tech support. So far, I've been able to live without the drivers, but I do want to know what I'm missing.

Larger Than Most - davige - USA
Only bluetooth mouse that I could find that was close to full size. Most are tiny notebook size. Battery life OK and takes a second or two to react if not used for a few minutes. Links easily with Mac or PC.

Acceptable Mouse - doxtorray - Glendale, AZ
I have owned this mouse for several months. It performs pretty well, but loses connection with my MBP, especially when the computer has been asleep.
As another poster mentioned, rebooting the computer will enable you to pair the mouse with the computer again (trying to re-pair without rebooting the computer does not seem to work, at least on my Mac).
I also found it frustrating that Macally's website has a downloadable preference pane utility, but it does not work with this mouse. There may be settings that can be accessed, including horizontal scrolling (which I would have liked), but they cannot be found.

PROS: lightweight, cute, black (making it easy to find in my living-room, where I use it), nice size and feel
CONS: no easy-to find preference pane, connection problems requiring reboot (this can get annoying), battery life*

* seems to require batteries a bit more often than other (non-Bluetooth) wireless mice, some of which I have found can go for almost a year on a pair of AA's. This mouse uses AAA's which may be the difference.

Pretty good mouse - Ruben Garcia Jr. -
The mouse works really good. Kind of looks like the Mighty Mouse. The plastic however feels a bit slippery without any good gripping feeling.

The scroll wheel on mine is a bit loud.

Check Out Logitech diNovo Edge Keyboard (Black) for $138.88

Logitech diNovo Edge Keyboard (Black) Review

I got this as a special order from my bookstore at school because I had extra credit lying around. I just have to say that I only charge around 2 months at a time and I've had it since it first came out in 2007. After three years of heavy use, such as CS, COD2, SC2, etc., its still going strong and I prefer it to any other keyboard. Its been responsive still and its been through a lot of abuse.

Logitech diNovo Edge Keyboard (Black) Feature

  • PerfectStroke key system - A precision micro-scissors mechanism distributes typing force evenly across key surfaces, making every stroke natural and fluid.
  • Stylishly sleek - Laser-cut from a single piece of Plexiglass and set in a brushed aluminum frame, the diNovo Edge makes a bold statement. Only 11 mm thick!
  • Elegant charging base - Put your keyboard on display while charging via the slim base/stand. Advanced Li-ion batteries recharge faster and last longer.
  • TouchDisc scrolling - A new type of touchpad, the TouchDisc unifies scrolling, selection, and cursor control. Scroll at hyperspeed with a touch of your finger.
  • Backlit stealth controls - Hidden hot keys light up at a touch, and fade into the background when not in use. The touch-sensitive volume slider gives you precise, fingertip audio control.

    Good Keyboard/Broke in 4 months - Jeffrey P. Knight -
I was looking for something for my HTPC that could be recognized during boot and include mouse and keyboard in one unit. In four months I charged it only two times. Unfortunately, the up arrow AND the right arrow keys stopped working on me. I plugged the device into another computer to check if it was indeed a hardware issue for such a new device. Indeed, this was the case. In addition to receiving a faulty product, Logitech customer service was poor and would not honor their warranty.

I will instead purchase a Apple magic trackpad and Apple wireless keyboard for my HTPC. If I have to boot to bios then I will use my 8 dollar wireless mouse and keyboard, which has working up and right arrow keys : )

I will not purchase from Logitech again due to their poor customer service.

Note: If the product was not defective I would have rated it 4 stars. -1 star for the track disc/mouse being uncomfortable to use.

    Died after a year - C. Tran -
I wish I paid attention to these negative reviews. My keyboard also died after a little more than a year -- with very little use.

My other expensive Logitech keyboard MX5500 also died -- keys got stuck and very stiff -- after more than a year. No more Logitech buys from me.

Great showcase keyboard but not built to last - S. Rose -
The good: this keyboard is very attractive. It has cool lights that come on conditionally and are completely hidden when not lit. It's hard to explain without seeing. Logitech has videos on their site. It has a built in touch mouse thumb pad and a geeky cool touch volume control. The keys are reminiscent of a decent laptop keyboard in profile and feedback. It is an excellent lap keyboard that just looks cool sitting on the coffee table.

The bad: I've gone through four of these, two at work and two at home. The first two had keys stop working under moderate use after 6 - 8 months. The second two worked for about one year of moderate use and while I didn't have problems with the keys, the battery life suddenly went to zilch. They are, at this point, requiring recharge every few days.

My conclusion: If you want a keyboard that is to run your PC run media center, spending most of the time turned off, looking cool in your living room, this is an excellent choice. If you want a keyboard that actually works for a living your money is likely better spent elsewhere.
