Apple Mac Mini Mc238ll-A Desktop Vs Gateway Sx2802-03 Desktop

Design: We just had to make a quick comparison between these two models because they are currently some of the best-selling desktop models in the market. They also happen to have almost identical price tags, which makes it even easier to make a comparison. Both desktop models currently retails for just around $579 each.

To date, the Mac Mini has remained to be one of the most compact desktop models in the market and the new Apple Mac Mini MC238LL/A is of no exception. It is extremely tiny, measuring at just 6.5 x 6.5 x 2 inches. It also sports a very minimalist look where the only feature that is visible from the front is the DVD slot.

The Gateway SX2802-03 desktop model is also quite compact by normal desktop standards. It is a tower style desktop model and measures at 10.5 x 4 x 12.5 inches. It is by no means as compact as the Mac Mini but still quite small compared to other full-featured laptop.

Specs & Performance: Besides the design, one of the biggest differences between these two desktop models would have to be in its specs. Actually, calling it a big difference would be quite an understatement. The Apple Mac Mini MC238LL/A comes with a 2.26Ghz Core 2 Duo processor, 160GB for storage and 2GB of RAM. The Gateway SX2802-03 desktop on the other hand has the new 2.5Ghz Quad processor, 6GB of RAM and a huge 1TB hard drive (that is 1024GB for storage!).

Although Mac computers and the Mac OS are known to outperform Windows based computers, I highly doubt that the Apple Mac Mini MC238LL/A would outperform the Gateway SX2802-03 considering the big specs difference. Despite its very affordable price, this Gateway model currently has some of the most powerful specs that any consumer desktops can have! So is the Apple desktop model better than the Gateway model? Well, if the design and size of the desktop is more important than computing power and performance, then the Mac Mini may be an appealing choice for you. On the other hand, if you are looking for a high-performance desktop with lots of storage and very powerful specs (not to mention great value for money), the Gateway SX2802-03 will be the perfect desktop for you!

For more reviews and product info on the Gateway desktop, visit Gateway SX2802-03. For more reviews and product info on the new Mac Mini desktop, visit Mac Mini MC238LL/A.

Where to Find Bluetooth Peripheral Device Drivers

If your computer is equipped with a Bluetooth adapter and Bluetooth devices, there will come a time when you'll need to locate Bluetooth peripheral device drivers. Where to start? The three main places for finding Bluetooth drivers are: Windows Update, individual manufacturers' websites, and third party device management software.

Finding Bluetooth peripheral device drivers using Windows Update is relatively easy, though not foolproof. Windows Update updates your system with Microsoft-issued updates as well as hardware updates from many manufacturers. If Microsoft doesn't have a copy of the latest drivers, it won't be able to deliver it to you. On the other hand, it's easy to do and worth a shot. Simply go to Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Update and click the "Check for updates" link. Alternately, you can go to Control Panel > Device Manager and use it to check for Bluetooth peripheral drivers for a specific device. In this case, you'll need to find the device in the list, double-click it, click the Driver tab, click Update Driver, and then let Windows search its database for the right drivers.

If Windows Update doesn't find any Bluetooth drivers, your next step is to go to the manufacturer's website and search for the drivers you want. You have two choices here. One, you can go to your computer's manufacturer's website and search for all updates specific to your model computer such as Dell, Toshiba, or Sony; or two, you can go to the manufacturer's website for a specific device such as a Logitech keyboard or an HP printer. Once you've located the Bluetooth drivers, you'll need to download and install them. Many are self-executing and all you'll need to do is click the downloaded file and allow it to run. Others will need to be saved on your computer and then manually installed using Device Manager or the printer's driver update utility if you're updating a Bluetooth printer.

The third option for finding Bluetooth peripheral device drivers is to invest in a device driver management software tool. These programs are designed specifically for updating device drivers including Bluetooth peripheral device drivers. What's nice about these utilities is that once you set them up, they continue working for you, finding and installing the latest hardware and Bluetooth peripheral device drivers as they become available. You do not need to manually search for drivers and install them; the software does it for you. Plus with dozens of devices on your computer, keeping your drivers current is time consuming and tedious.

No matter how you update your drivers, make sure to set a restore point beforehand and reboot your system afterwards. The restore point will give you peace of mind and while the reboot will finalize the update process. If you need Bluetooth device drivers, you have several ways to find them. Whether you need to update a single device or want to update all devices on your system, these three options are easy to use.

DriversUpdate.org offers device driver management tools, software reviews, and advice for updating hardware. Whether you need to update Bluetooth peripheral device drivers or any other device, plan a stop at DriversUpdate.org.

Bluetooth Mouse

If you are a person who is tired of making presentation with those annoying wires of your mouse getting in your way disturbing you, then you can very well understand the convenience of a wireless mouse. When we decide to go for wireless mouse, we have two options: RF mouse and Bluetooth mouse. The obvious expert's choice is going to be the Bluetooth mouse because of the Bluetooth connectivity.

If you are planning to upgrade your computer or if your computer is Bluetooth enabled, then your best option is to go for Bluetooth mouse. That too, if you have integrated Bluetooth in your laptop, then Bluetooth mouse will be an ideal accessory for your laptop. So wondering what makes the Bluetooth special? Firstly you don't need to install dongle. If you already own a Bluetooth enabled laptop or computer, then your Bluetooth mouse will work straightaway even without the installation of Bluetooth dongle.

Since the Bluetooth mice are in the growing phase, not many companies are involved in its production. Some of the best Bluetooth mice are manufactured by computer accessory giants Microsoft and Logitech.

The Microsoft Bluetooth mouse is called as Intellimouse which has tilted wheels that adds more convenience while the Logitech Bluetooth mice are named as MX-900 which comes with a design similar to the traditional mouse. Since the Intellimouses are using tilted wheels you might need some time to get used to it. But once you get used to it, then you can scroll at ease.

If you are looking for cheaper BT mice, you can find lot of online companies selling them for you. But you need to select either Intellimouse or MX-900 if you want to buy a quality product with reliability. Paying a bit more is not going to bother you much if you can get a quality and reliable product with that money.

Advantages of Ergonomic Keyboards

Ergonomic keyboards are specially designed computer keyboards with an aim to reduce stress on your wrists and forearms while typing. They have been around for quite some time now, and its been proven that the special contour designs of these keyboards are definitely worth the trouble.

A common ergonomic keyboard design is one where the keyboards seems to be split in half, and each half is positioned on an angle to match the shape of your wrists when typing.

If you use a computer frequently, and especially if you do a lot of typing, you'll want to make sure you are comfortable with your keyboard. And so, buying an ergonomic computer keyboard would be a great investment for you. You'll save your hands, forearms and wrists from discomfort, making you more productive and allowing you to work for longer periods of time.

Also, if you've ever experienced pain in your hands, wrists or forearms associated with using your keyboard in the past, you will want to consider dumping your old keyboard and buying an ergonomic one to save you from the pain.

If your use of the computer doesn't include extensive keyboard work, you might not see the full benefits from an ergonomic keyboard. Although, I would still recommend an ergonomic keyboard for all computer users, it's better to be safe than sorry.

Buying an ergonomic keyboard is a great investment that will save you in the long run.

How to Connect Your iPad With a Bluetooth Headset

Your iPad is configured to utilize a wireless technology called Bluetooth, which enables you to make wireless connections to other Bluetooth compatible devices. Most laptop computers come with Bluetooth built in to the system as well as most cell phones. The Bluetooth device allows your iPad to connect with any Bluetooth compatible device such as keyboard or mouse, cell phone, digital camera, printer, headset etc. Bluetooth technology is for short range use therefore 33 feet is the maximum distance two Bluetooth devices should be apart from each other.

Configuring and connecting any two Bluetooth devices is very simple and can be broken into two distinct phases: Discoverable and Pairing.

Bluetooth devices only broadcast their availability when you want them to. This is called making your device "discoverable". For privacy and functionality, many Bluetooth devices need to be paired with another device before the connection is established. "Pairing" or "to pair" or "paired" is simply the technical language on making a permanent connection between two Bluetooth devices. This is useful because once two devices are paired; you never have to configure the devices again. Just turn them on and two devices will automatically connect to each other even in a room full of other Bluetooth devices. All Bluetooth devices can be "un-paired," meaning you can break the connection and pair with another Bluetooth device.

To Pair a device, you must first make it discoverable, connect to the device of your choosing, and enter a multi-digit (usually four) pass code or PIN. Pairing devices such as your cell phone with your iPad will allow you to choose a unique pass code. For other devices such as Bluetooth headset, the headset comes with a default passkey that you enter in your iPad during the pairing process. (Notes: Even though most headsets default passkey is 0000, your connection will be secure with your iPad.)

How to connect your iPad with a Bluetooth headset

Connecting your iPad with a Bluetooth headset:

1. Turn on your Bluetooth receiver in your iPad. If your iPad already has the Bluetooth receiver on you will see a Bluetooth logo in the status bar next to the battery status icon.
2. Touch "Settings" on the Home screen.
3. Touch "General" in the Settings screen.
4. Touch "Bluetooth" in the General Screen and turn the Bluetooth on.
5. Turn on the Bluetooth headset and make it discoverable. Follow the directions of the manufacture to make your device discoverable. For example, Jawbone headsets require pressing and holding both device buttons till the signal light flashes red and white.
6. Your iPad should now display the name of your Bluetooth headset. Touch the name of the Bluetooth headset. Your iPad should pair with the headset and prompt for the passkey.
7. Enter the headset passkey in the iPad PIN box. (The default key is often 0000 but check the manufacturer instructions)

How to use your Bluetooth headset to listen to music

After you've paired a headset, your iPad should make your headset the "default output audio device." Follow the steps below if this does not happen"

1. Touch "iPod" on the Home Screen to load the iPod app.
2. Once the iPod app loads check to see what icon is at the top left corner of the screen. If you a speaker icon that means the iPad is using your built in speakers as the default output audio device.
3. At the bottom of the screen you will see the status bar. Touch the Bluetooth icon.
4. Touch your paired Bluetooth headset.
5. You should now hear your song playing through the Bluetooth headset instead of the system speakers.

Bluetooth2 How to connect your iPad with a Bluetooth headset

How to Unpair your Bluetooth headset

If you no longer plan to use a headset with your iPad, you can unpair the devices by following these steps:

1. Touch "Settings" on the Home Screen. The Settings screen should pop up.
2. Touch "General". The General screen displays.
3. Touch "Bluetooth". The Bluetooth screen displays.
4. Touch the name of the Bluetooth headset.
5. Touch "Forget this Device". Your iPad unpairs the Bluetooth headset.

Menotek Portable Bluetooth Keyboard Exceeds Expectations

If you are looking for a good mobile phone accessory that you can invest your money on, a portable Bluetooth keyboard is one of your best choices. A portable keyboard will let you take control of your mobile phone and your wireless devices. Its Bluetooth feature will allow you to type long emails and reports in your mobile phone just like you would using a regular computer.

It is hard to type directly on your iPad. You have to crane you neck over your iPad while typing on a flat surface. If you want to type while standing up, you will also have some problems when tilting your wrists as it supports your iPad. These typing positions will easily make your fingers and your wrists feel strained.

A portable Bluetooth keyboard eliminates all of these problems. A wireless keyboard will allow you to place your iPad in a position where you can conveniently view its screen while placing the keyboard in a position that is comfortable for typing.

You have three specific options when choosing from the wide range of wireless keyboards. First of all, you can opt for a flexible wireless keyboard that you can easily roll up and take with you anywhere you go. You could also choose a tiny keyboard that is so small that there is no need to fold or roll it in order to transport it. Lastly, you could get a foldable keyboard which you can fold in half and safely place inside your iPad bag.

According to thousands of customer reviews, the Menotek portable Bluetooth keyboard exceeds the expectations of consumers. It is compatible with different iPad 3G and WiFi models. After plugging it into your mobile phone, you can easily type away with ease everywhere you want to go.

This versatile keyboard is also very easy to transport. Whenever you want to bring it with you, all you need to do is to roll it up and to put it inside your bag. Lightweight, durable, and wireless, this keyboard is exactly what you need for a rewarding typing experience.

Menotek's remarkable features can be summed up into four words - washable, portable, rechargeable, and waterproof. A Menotek portable Bluetooth keyboard stays functional even after it has made contact with water. Since it is waterproof, you can also wash it every time you think your keyboard needs some cleaning. With this Menotek keyboard, you will no longer need to worry about getting morsels of food or minute particles in between your keyboard's alphanumeric keys.

There are no hassles when travelling with a Menotek keyboard. Its small size will make it consume less space inside your iPad's bag. It is also USB rechargeable so you can never run out of batteries while you are on the road. Its compact charger kit contains a USB charging cable that does not require the use of a computer. Menotek has made typing in your iPad or 3G phone easier in every possible way.

If you are looking for the world's best wireless keyboards, check out Menotek's advanced Bluetooth keyboards. With a Menotek portable Bluetooth keyboard, you can experience genuine pleasure from every word you type into your iPad or 3G phone.

Brother HL - 4050CDN Toner Based Printer - Combines Speed, Quality, and Durability, Great Color Lase

Brother HL-4050CDN Color Laser Printer

Overview

The Brother HL-4050CDN Color Laser Printer offers high networking capabilities to offices in need of a full-service color printing machine. Build primarily for small- to medium-sized businesses in need of high-quality, consistent prints, the HL-4050CDN is one of a long line of printers meant to make the busy office environment easy to navigate. If you need speed, clear color or monochrome prints, and a moderate price tag, this printer offers an ideal solution.

Features and Functionality

The Brother HL-4050CDN is built to be an office machine. Although it is compact compared to larger printers with walk-up copy and fax features, it is durable and offers connectivity options for a number of users. Connection is offered via USB or Parallel interfaces, as well as an Ethernet network cable. It can be used with PCs, Macs, and laptop computers for maximum versatility, and its standard PictBridge port means you can bypass the computer altogether and print directly from your USB flash drive. A large 64 MB of memory (which can be expanded up to 576 MB) means that the printer can handle large printing jobs and multiple user queues.

The Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black Brother HL-4050CDN toner cartridges are easy to replace. The front cover of the printer drops down, allowing users access to both the drum and the four separate HL-4050CDN cartridges. You can replace one at a time, thereby extending the life of your toner and saving the office both time and money. All four toner cartridge models for this printer (TN115BK, TN115C, TN115Y, TN115M) are available in both compatible and OEM versions.

Because of the full range of color printing, the HL-4050CDN can be used to make high-quality presentations, graphic-heavy documents, or even double-sided reports (thanks to the automatic duplex feature). Print resolution is a high 2400 x 600 dpi, with a print speed of up to 20 pages per minute. The standard paper tray included with the printer holds 250 sheets, with the option to upgrade with an additional 250. A manual feed tray can also be fed up to 50 additional sheets of paper, envelopes, transparencies, or other non-paper media.

Why Choose the Brother HL-4050CDN Color Laser Printer?

The Brother HL-4050CDN is a fast, stable printer meant to make printing in an office setting hassle-free. With a number of connectivity options, high-quality color and monochrome resolution, and automatic duplex printing, there are few jobs that this printer can't handle. And with easy HL-4050CDN toner replacement with yields of up to 4,000 (for color cartridges) and 5,000 (for black cartridges) prints, the maintenance costs are right in line with any small business budget.

Why Should Computers Be Recycled?

Since there have been so many upgrades in change of technology increasingly advancing every year, there have been many people disposing of their old computers to keep up with the new stuff. There are so many useful materials that an old computer has that can be easily recycled to put into new electronics, but many people would rather not deal with the hassle of recycling them and will just throw them in the dump. It's not a very good idea to just throw your old computers in the garbage, but it's best to either donate the computers or recycle them. There are many reasons as to why it is highly recommended that you recycle the computers rather than just trash them.

It doesn't take a genius to figure that even if you have no use for your old computer that there are still many useful parts inside of it. To waste those useful parts is the equivalent of ordering food at a restaurant when you're not hungry and then throwing it in the trash. One of the main reasons as to why you should be more than willing to recycle a computer rather than just throw it away in the garbage is because there are many parts inside of it that are harmful and very toxic to the environment. Computers contain lead inside of their Cathode Ray Tubes which can be very poisoning to out soil and our water supply. There are also other hazardous components that are inside of computers that can poison our environment, such as mercury, lithium, and cadmium. If more people understood this and gave more thought about the reasons they should recycle computers, it would save our environment from harm's way.

Keep in mind as mentioned before it is not only that these computer parts can be dangerous, but they are useful. Why would anyone want to waste something that could be of good use? The refurbished items that are used are often sold for a cheaper price to people that might not be able to afford brand new products. A great benefit that you might want to consider when you decide to just throw your computer in the garbage in the future, is the fact that many places will pay an incentive for computer parts that you pass down to them. What a great opportunity to earn some extra cash!

There are many green schemes available for computer recycling as well as IT Equipment recycling like printers and other office equipment.

iPad Docking Stations

When you purchase an iPad you purchase a basic device that can be enhanced by adding different iPad accessories to it. This device can also be used in combination with another computer system to upload or download different programs or images. iTunes is a service program created by Apple that works with their various line of products including their iPhone and iPad items. This service is how you can load various music tracks onto your devices and listen to them at your convenience. Another popular item to use is the iPad dock.

This is a base that you place an iPad into either to store it or to make using it more convenient. An iPaddocking station is designed to charge your device and depending on the model you purchase it can be used in combination with other devices to make your machine more versatile. The iPad keyboard dock has a connector for plugging in a standard computer keyboard for use with an iPad. Most of these iPad docks will include ports for connecting external audio devices so you can listen to your music through other machines. Some systems will also allow for the connecting of iPods to easily transfer data from one source to the other.

When shopping for the various accessory products you will find some that are priced higher than others. As with a lot of computer products there are well known brands and those that are not known at all. Some styles of the dock are made to be portable and come as items that can collapse. This can be a handy product to look for if you take your iPad with you to different locations. Some lesser known brands don't offer the portable style for their docking stations. Whatever your preference is for choosing accessories, you will be able to enjoy your iPad with most any style you choose.

Check Out Logitech Wireless Desktop MK 300 for $36.99

Logitech Wireless Desktop MK 300 Review

I almost refused the delivery of this item when I ordered it because I misread the product information page, and thought it was compatible with MAc OS X. The product information claims it is not, but it works 100% fine with my Mac running Snow Leopard 10.6.4. I have not tested older versions of Mac OS X.

Mac users looking for a cheap wireless solution should look no further than the Logitech Wireless Desktop MK300. Normally I dislike wireless products like this because in the past they used to be horrible. The mouse would skip and lag, but not on this one. The mouse is super-responsive an does not have any lag or noticeable jitter. The mouse takes 2 AA batteries but oddly enough will operate with just 1 AA battery installed (on the left side).

The keyboard is whisper quiet and also works great. When you first plug it into your Mac and connect the keyboard, you will get the standard "Unknown Keyboard" setup assitant that you get with any non-apple keyboard. Simply follow the instructions on the screen and you will be up and running in less than 10 seconds. As with any other non-apple keyboard, the Windows Key is the Command Key (), and Alt is the Option Key ().

All-in-all this was an excellent purchase and I am happy to finally be wireless, so that I can use my Mac Mini with my 42" TV without having wires run across the floor.

I would recommend this product to anyone (Mac or PC) who wants a simple, affordable, quality wireless desktop.

Logitech Wireless Desktop MK 300 Feature

 • One-touch access controls to music, video, email and application switching (with the included software)
 • Programmable F-keys
 • Intelligent power management with automatic sleep mode, on/off switch, and a battery status indicator
 • 1200 dpi optical mouse makes tracking smoother and more responsive than standard optical mice
 • Easy-to-setup wireless technology

Logitech Wireless Desktop MK 300 Overview

For an easy and reliable way to "go cordless" without sacrificing features, the Logitech Wireless Desktop MK300 offers a contemporary keyboard and mouse combination for your home desk. It features one-touch access controls for media and applications; extended battery life; and wireless technology that connects right out of the box--all in a sleek design.

I bought this for Pop's last Christmas. - Dave Star - C.G. Minnesota, USA
I got this for my Dad last Christmas. Since he still was using the original keyboard, witch had crumbs and nasty looking stuff all over it LOL This one is a bit more user friendly and I bought it as an upgrade for him. It has short cut keys and is wireless of course. Also has a few media buttons as well. So if you know some one who still has and is using the original wired keyboard this is a good gift/upgrade for them if they don't like it something is wrong with them take it back and keep it for your self... I would, LOL

Piece of garbage!!!!! Save your money!!!! - D. Moore - Chattanooga, TN
I previously owned a Microsoft keyboard and wireless mouse, that product lasted for years and I loved it. Eventually the connectors in the mouse went bad. I was looking for an economical way out as I do not spend all my time on the computer, so I bought this product which was the most reasonably priced. I have had it less than 4 months and all I can say is that it is a total piece of garbage and a total waste of my money. Half the time the keys do not work, when they do they work fine for a while then start sticking or not working. I tried to write this review on the keyboard and had to respell GARBAGE no less than 16 times. Finally I slammed the thing in the floor and broke it! I am now using all the ports on my computer to have my old keyboard and the mouse from the new keyboard in another. I went through countless batteries in the 4 months I used it, changing the batteries is a very brief and temporary solution. AMAZON, please take this piece of trash off your website! I have always been happy with everything I have bought from you, but believe me this product is garbage and will do you more harm than good to sell.

Great product for the price - Brian -
For the price you can't get a better wireless keyboard/mouse combo. Basic features with a few nice keyboard shortcuts including an app switcher similar to OS X Expose.

Check Out Dell Wireless Keyboard and Mouse for $41.00

Dell Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Review

As an IT professional I hated wireless keyboards and mice. I refused to use them or purchase them for my company. I could not justify the cost of batteries. Most wireless devices I have tried in the past would lose the signal or be susceptible to interference. This one is very good. I rarely get any interference and the batteries last a very long time. The keyboard never misses and the mouse is about 99.99% reliable.

Do Not Just Throw Your Old Laptop Away

Consumers have to be well-informed to make the smart decision while shopping for any kind of products, and it is particularly true while dealing with electronics departments. It is astonishing just how compulsive we could be while it comes to the new electronics products buying, with items like notebooks topping the list. And it seems that any sort of excuse will be good enough to buy the expensive new laptop, even when the stuff might be over-priced and the way beyond what the consumers actually need! One slightest scratch or first sign of troubles of hard drive, the people will chomp at the bit to obtain a whole new one, but is it truly necessary to do like that?

The fact is that a smarter and efficient alternative way may end up saving many people a great quantity of money and time. It is to search online for the businesses which offer all kinds of notebook spares and who are able to furthermore fixing up all kinds of problems which have arisen in the notebook.

What people should realize is that it needs to be really major damages for a laptop to be considered as absolutely worthless. Even then, there still probably are a few dollar worth of parts that are left inside it and the owner may take advantage of selling laptop to those used laptop parts online store. Whether it's the laptop drive or memory card that you have problems with, remember, the last thing that you should do is only throw the laptop away as a result. And you may buy such kind of items and all kinds of other replacement parts online for quite little money or even make the same company that you purchase these products from to provide your notebook a little refurbishing, which means you do not have to go elsewhere to look for a qualified technician.

Rii Portable 2.4GHz Mini Wireless Keyboard Handheld Rechargeable Keyboard Touchpad for Laptops Notebooks Computer IPTV Car PC Wii PS3 HTPC (Black) Review

I purchased this device for a home theater system, to which I connected a spare laptop for streaming video. The keyboard has nice positive click keys and a back-light which is superb in dim lighting. It has a laser pointer if you use it for business presentations, but at home it just makes a great cat toy!

The battery life seems very good and so far I haven't had to recharge it in a week.

The touch/scroll pad functions well most of the time. I've discovered that at the distance of my sofa from the HT system that it works better in some places or angles than others (but so does the wireless mouse that I have), but I still love this device.

Awesome device!! - Kunal -
I am typing this review through the Rii mini wireless keyboard sitting 8 feet away from my laptop and it works flawlessly. I got it for on ebay bidding. I was a little skeptical about the usability of its touchpad before buying this device but boy am i surprised!! It is super smooth and convenient. It fits very well in my hands. Scrolling feature is amazing while browsing. I would definitely recommend this product.

Awesome keyboard - D -
This keyboard is awesome. A little bit heavier and sturdier than I assumed it would be (which is a good thing) and it's just pretty darn cool. My only complaint was the shipping time but when I got the product and realized it had shipped from Honk Kong for more than they charged me for shipping, I was okay with it.

Amazing little device - B. Grant - GA
This product is awesome! I ordered one to use in our living room with my MythTV PVR running Ubuntu 10.04. It was truly plug&play and is a joy to use when you need a keyboard. It is tiny. In fact, it is smaller than our universal remote control. You won't type long novels with it, but if you can text on a smartphone, you can use this easily. The trackpad and laser pointer are bonus features that are nice to have as well. I highly recommend!

Bluetooth Marketing Effectively Increases Your Audience Share

Wouldn't you want to deliver your advertisements directly to your consumers? How could you make sure that the ads that you're paying for are actually being seen or heard by your target market? Newspapers, billboards, radio, TV, and the internet may be popular marketing media but how many people SEE what you have to offer? The majority are lost in thought or change channels once adverts come on. Now, there is a way to allow people to see what you have. It's called Bluetooth Marketing and what it does is deliver your message straight to a Bluetooth enabled electronic device like a mobile phone or a laptop. It's not spam or unsolicited mail, since the recipient must allow the video, message, or pictures to upload before he can see them.

All you need to start on this revolutionary marketing campaign is your ad, some Bluetooth advertising hardware like a dongle if you don't have Bluetooth in your computer or a long range Bluetooth antenna to allow you a bigger reach than a ten meter radius, and Bluetooth advertising software to let you reach your audience. How does it work? Studies show that approximately 80% of the current population have electronic devices that are Bluetooth enabled, so this is the target market you are trying to reach. Your hardware constantly monitors the people that pass within range of your device and send them a message once they come in range. If they accept, they will be sent your advertisement, which can be anything from a short video to simply your credit card.

Since each software download is licensed, consumers will also be sure that they are not receiving spam or malware. Imagine being able to use Bluecasting, another term for Bluetooth Marketing or Bluetooth advertising, in a highly populated area like a mall, a row or restaurants, near banks, at airports, subway stations or bus and train terminals... really, the potential is tremendous! Don't keep on with the old, static way of advertising. The Bluetooth solution is what you need with a limitless yet directly targeted market that can receive different kinds of media in different types of adverts and formats to keep in interesting and the consumers coming in.

Long Range Bluetooth - BlueMagnet is a leading company in Bluetooth Marketing and Bluetooth Advertising solutions. Whatever your business size is, we've got a solution that suits your marketing plan & budget.

Droid "X" Is for "Excellent"

Droid X for "Excellent"

Motorola hits another homerun with the Droid X. I'm not certain what the "X" stands for, but I'm going to say that it must stand for "Excellent" because it is. Let me tell you why I have come to that conclusion.

Basic Specs

The first thing that will grab you is the humungous 4.3 inch touch screen, and its brilliant WVGA edge to edge display that supports up to 16 colors. Remember the old three and four color screens we used to get so excited about?

Its sleek, shiny black case measures 5.02" x 2.57" x.39". It has a slight hump on the back presumably to accommodate the camera and flash-more about that later. It weighs in at 5.47 ounces. So, it's not going to make your pants fall down if you put it in your pocket.

The Droid X runs on the Android 2.1 with the Motorola platform. Version 2.2 (Google Froyo) should be available soon. It features a 1.0 Ghz processor with plenty of hunk and 8 GB of internal memory. With a micro SD slot, you can get up to 32 more Gigs of memory. It comes with a 16 GB card installed.

A 540 mAHLi-ion battery is rated to provide up to 480 minutes usage time and 220 hours standby time. But, in practice, I found that the battery can become exhausted rather rapidly, especially if you are multitasking with additional services such as GPS, Wi-FI or Bluetooth. Keep your charger handy or a spare battery.

Let's take a walk around the unit checking for buttons, inputs and outputs. On the top, we have a 3.5 mm jack for earphones, a microphone (one of three), and a power button. On the right side are two volume control buttons and a button to invoke the camera. There is nothing on the bottom unless you count the bottom of the screen in the front where there is another microphone plus Menu, Home Screen, Return, and Search physical hardware buttons. On the left side, toward the bottom is a micro USB port for a charging/sync cable. Below that is a HDMI cable port for audio/video output so that you can transfer content from the Droid for viewing on your TV. Nice. You can also output to a projector. On the back is an 8 MPX camera lens and a dual LED flash. On the bottom of the back is yet another microphone.

Camera and Video

The camera is to covet with its 8.0 MPX lens 1/1000 second mechanical shutter, auto focus, touch to focus, face recognition and panoramic modes features. The Droid X will share photos, video, and music with other DLNA compatible devices. (However, I didn't have much luck with this feature.) The 720 p ND video allows slow motion capture, fast action, and quick uploads to YouTube. It features directional audio capture with is three microphones that enhance sound while tuning out background noise. With HDMI output, you can play your recorded videos on your HD TV. Unfortunately, a cable is not included. But there is still no way to take screen shots, which is a pity.

If you enjoy listening to music on your phone, the Droid should please you with its standard 3.5 mm jack for headphones, Bluetooth, Android Music Player, ability to create playlists, access to the Amazon Music Store of MP3 downloads, and FM Radio. There is also a Verizon VCast store available for the purchase of music.

I found the sound quality to be acceptable with earplugs, external stereo speakers, and with Bluetooth headphones.

If you're looking for video entertainment, the Droid X can deliver. It comes with an Interface app for Blockbuster video that allows you to stream videos. Of course, you must rent them. Unfortunately, there is no app for, nor could I even access Hulu on the browser to watch TV and movies. Fortunately, there is an app for Orb, which allows you to tune into your desktop computer remotely to access files, watch videos, and live or recorded TV. Also, I am happy to report that SlingBox now has an app for the Droid. It costs $29.95, and you must have a Slingbox installed on your TV, but it's well worth the investment. Welcome aboard Sling Media. There are some other apps for viewing more limited TV channels as well that are worth exploring. I only wish there were an application for Netflix streaming videos. Maybe I'll have to create one myself.

Droid X comes with an FM tuner that requires you to plug in ear buds that act as an antenna. There are many nice radio and music apps available as well. My favorite is Pandora, which is free. If you suggest a tune or a composer, it will create a playlist of similar items in the same genre and stream them to you. Nice.

If you are a gamer, there is a plethora of games in the Market for you to download. Many are free. The large screen, fast processor, memory and great graphics combine for a pleasant gaming experience. I haven't tried it yet because I don't have an HDMI cable, but I suspect it may also be possible to play games from the X on your HDTV or on a projection screen.

3G Mobile Hotspot

Another attractive feature of the X is that it can perform as a Wi-Fi router connecting up to five other devices using Verizon's 3G network. Unfortunately, this service costs an additional $20 per month, and there is a 2 GB cap on usage.

Using the built-in Wi-Fi feature will generally give you a much faster connection to the Internet and save possible billable connection time via 3G.

Apps and Software

As Android is a Google platform, it offers many Google mobile apps such as Maps, Voice, Latitude, Calendar, Push Gmail, Talk, and integrated Google, Exchange, Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter contacts. Let me caution you though. Adding all your social networking contacts to your regular contacts can be overwhelming and bog down the system. It offers advanced Speech Recognition, IMAP, POP, Hotmail, and AOL email support. Other Google and Verizon apps may be installed from the Android Market along with around 50,000 other paid and free apps.

I am pleased to report that my Google contacts and calendar ported over seamlessly to the X and synced with my desktop Outlook information. You can access your Google tasks and Docs. Strangely, while you can edit Excel docs, you cannot create or edit any other Microsoft Office documents, which is not exactly a plus in my book. However, there is a workaround with a third party application from DataViz.

My Verizon, Backup Assistant, and CityID are some of the other apps that come preinstalled that let you keep track of your account, backup your device, and have a caller's city appear on the screen. It also comes with a voicemail widget that I never could get to work properly. You can subscribe and pay a fee, for visual voice mail. But I much prefer Google Voice, and it's free.

Screens and Navigation

After turning on the device and unlocking it with a finger gesture, a home screen appears sprinkled with apps and widgets. Navigation is accomplished with finger gestures. You can flick to six different screens that you can customize to suite your tastes. You can even customize the background with pre-loaded graphics or provide your own.

One of the six screens is set up for quick access to your favorite contacts. It did not work well for me. My first four contacts displayed with large photos, the next four with smaller photos, the next four would not display photos at all, just a blue box with a gear in the corner. Tech support was not able to resolve this issue.

Another screen is set up with a music widget for easy access to your favorite tunes and playlists.

At the top of another page is a widget that gives quick access to Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Phone, and GPS, which I appreciate.

Another page comes with widgets for news and RSS feeds already set up for you. Of course you can remove these if you wish or add more icons of your own choosing to any of the six screens.

Google Voice search allows you to take charge of your phone and tell it what to do. You can search on the phone for such things as contacts, tell it to call someone or pull up an app or file. You can search the Web orally or find a business or address and then navigate to it. If you have an urge to be dictatorial, here's your chance to be the boss.

Keyboard

Unlike its predecessors, the Motorola Droid X does not have a slide out lateral keyboard. For me that it is plus. I do not like slide out keyboards, and I especially don't like lateral ones. They are bulky, mechanical, and just something more to go wrong. I don't appreciate being forced to use two hands to type if I don't want to. I really like the onboard input panel for Droid X.

The X also comes with an onscreen keyboard that opens automatically whenever text entry is required. If you prefer a larger keyboard, just orient the device horizontally, and the keyboard will shift to a wider, horizontal display.

In settings, it is possible to turn on such options as keypress sound or vibrate, auto capitalization, auto punctuate, word suggestions, and autocorrect errors. You also have your choice between the standard Multi-touch keyboard, and a new innovative one called Swype.

The Multi-touch keyboard expands the touched character, which reduces typos. You can slide your finger to the desired character if you make a mistroke. Holding the key down brings up every available variation of the letter including foreign characters diacritical markings. Another nice feature of this keyboard is the voice option. Touch the microphone and speak the text you want to create. It is surprisingly accurate. As a test I said, "I want to say that this is a very accurate system." The way it came out was, "I wanna say that this is a very accurate system." Whoops, maybe it's a little too accurate.

Swype is a pretty amazing keyboard option. You merely slide your finger around the screen from one desired letter to the next until the word is completed. When you lift your finger the word appears on the screen as if by magic. If there are other possibilities with the letter combinations, a list of choices to tap will appear on the screen. There is a tutorial to get you up and running. You can also use the speech to text engine with Swype, and there's a emoticon directory too.

Now comes the most exciting part for me, and that is the X's ability to connect to an external Bluetooth keyboard using an interface app called KeyPro. It works like a charm, and you are in the word processing, inputting business. There is a trial version to try before you buy.

The only problem is that there is no real word processing program available yet for the X. The work-around is to use Documents to Go by DataViz. It costs $14.99, but it's a most worthwhile investment if you want to turn you PDA into a road warrior. It will allow you to view, edit, and create Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF documents. I consider this an absolute must have.

It would be an altogether perfect world if the Android Market had an application that would display a Droid screen on your desktop and allow interaction with file drag/drop, keyboard inputting, and mouse/cursor movement. Sometimes I really miss my Windows Mobile devices.

Another feature I appreciate is the you can tap and hold to make a string of entered text expand and the easily see where to place the cursor to correct a type. Nice.

Browsing

Browsing the Net with the big, crystal clear screen and fast processor on the X is a pleasure. The response time is snappy, and scrolling is smooth and fast. Enlarging the image with spread or retracted figure gestures works well. My only wish would be that there were an option to configure a Webpage to fit the screen as you can with a Windows Mobile device. This is a much better way to view a Webpage on a handheld device because you don't have to scroll all over the place. I would put this option on my list wish for Droid developers.

There are many attractive features associated with the browsing experience. For example, you can tap on the star on the right side of the address bar to mark a favorite. It then appears on the favorite screen for easy access. The favorites screen lets you view the bookmarks in a list or image view showing the home page. There are also tabs for Most Visited and History. You can even place a Webpage on one of the home screens for instant access.

By the way, you can watch YouTube in high resolution by tapping HQ on the lower right of the screen.

Syncing

By connecting your X to your desktop or laptop via the supplied micro USB cable, you can transfer files, videos, and pictures. With downloadable Media Manager, you can also purchase, store, and listen to music from the Verizon store. Unfortunately, the Media Manager only supports 32 bit systems. So, if you have a 64 bit system, you're out of luck. However, you can still connect to the X as if it were another drive and transfer files that way.

Accessories

The X comes in a pretty bare bones box with just a charger, a micro USB cable, and a mini quick start guide. To take full advantage of this marvelous device, you may wish to accessorize it more fully with a 32 MB micro SC card, an HDMI cable, a windshield mount for navigation, a charging/docking station, and perhaps a case to protect your investment. I plan to write reviews of some of these items in subsequent articles.

Conclusion

The Motorola Droid X is a supreme powerhouse of functionality with its big, high definition screen, 8 MPX dual flash camera and HD camcorder with an HDMI port for output to TVs and projectors. While it may not have as many apps yet as the iPhone, there are certainly enough to keep anyone busy, productive, and entertained while more are being developed for this relatively new platform.

There are several things I wish the X could do and hope they will be forthcoming. I wish it were possible to take screen shots. I wish it had the native capability to handle Office docs. I wish there were an app to place an interactive X screen on a monitor. I wish there were an option to configure Webpages for single column viewing without having to scroll sidesways. I wish there were a Netflix app for viewing movies, which would be much better, in my opinion, than Blockbuster.

I could go on with my wish list, but I feel confident that the Droid platform is a serious contender now and developers with place a lot of energy into creating new and wonderful applications to make it even better. I fear, however, that as an open platform in which every manufacturer can put its own twist on things using all different screens, processors, and resolutions, that it will be more difficult for developers to create apps that work across all Droid models and they will become discouraged. That is a problem iPhone developers don't have as much.

The hump on the back reminds me of the Hunchback of Notre Dame and makes the device appear to be top heavy. It's too bad that it doesn't come with an HDMI cable and a case to protect it.

In any case, I am very pleased overall with the Motorola Droid X from Verizon, and I wish to give it my very highest recommendation. It is worth your serious consideration if you are looking for a new device. I would even encourage you to trade in your current model for this beauty.
