There's tons of new clones that come out all of the time. Some stick and some don't. Most of the CECTs are well received and some become classics that remain popular for a really long time. To put it simply, the winners stand up well and hold their own. Examples of these are the CECT P168, the i9, and the M88, which I'll discuss more in the following article.
Why The M88 Stands Out: One of the reasons that the M88 holds up because it has Wi-Fi, GPS, Windows, and Java. However Wi-Fi often comes into play the most because it can be a real money saver over the life of the phone. This phone is already pretty cheap to begin with and it's made even cheaper because you don't have to have a contract with it. You can use pay as you go or prepaid sim cards if you wish. But also saving money is the fact that if you're close to hot spots or the Internet, you'll never (or rarely) need to pay for or use up your data or Internet. You're able to connect for free via Wi-Fi instead. I also really like this feature when I'm with my kids and want to check email or the status of something but I don't want to stop what I'm doing and log on to the computer. I can just take the phone out of my pocket, do what I need to do, and I've never had to interrupt my time with my kids.
Also, one thing that is a big deal on this phone is that it has Windows. This makes it more user friendly, but more than that, it allows you to download a browser that supports flash. The free browser is called Skyfire and it only works on phones that support Windows Mobile or Symbian. The M88 is one of the few clones that fit this bill. This can be important if you want to very quickly browse sites with video or games that require a flash reader. You can go directly to the sites rather than having to use and wait for a go between.
Additionally, this phone has Java. Not all clones do. This allows for Microsoft productivity downloads and upgrades as well as games, and other fun applications that you couldn't get if the phone didn't support Java. This phone is also a quad band. The predecessor to this phone, the T32, was only a tri band so this is an improvement. You can pretty much use this one world wide as long as you're using a GSM sim.
One other feature on this one that is considered a "bonus" is the TV out feature. Many people mistake this for being able to watch TV on the phone. That's not what it means (although you could watch TV by getting online via Wi-Fi.) What "TV out" means is that you can plug the phone into your television so that you can watch the video, photos, or movies that are on the phone on a larger screen.
And, this one has all the standby features that most of these models have - web browsing, email and text (pop up QWERTY, flat keyboard), Bluetooth, FM radio, and 2.0 MP digital camera. There are also plentiful accessories readily available for this clone including pre paid sims, skins, batteries, USB cords, SD memory cards (and software to expand the memory) etc. Basically, this phone is pretty easy and pretty cheap to own. It has most everything that you could need and would potentially pay a lot more for if you were using another name brand phone.
